Treasure Hoard Dragon and Glittering Coins coloring page
There is a pleasant dragon resting on the pile of coin and jewels on a comfortable cave including clean lines, large form, and details with twinkle ready objects making the dragon good enough to be colored by kids.
This blinding color page is of a soft dragon coiled within an ornate treasure hulk. Rounded horns, seeming smooth belly plates, rounded scalloped back scales keep the character comfortable and friendly, and the folded wings make huge easy areas to color. The mound of treasure consists of neat stacks of coins, in simple repetitive circles with separate tidy piles of coins, as well as shapes of gems, a crown, a goblet and an open chest with well-fitted wood slats and metal bands. There are sparkle stars and cute twinkle dots that are placed around the hoard to give it some added shine. The cave background is not frightful: the walls are broad rock walls, there are 2 stalactites, and it is clear that there is a lantern (or torch) on a simple bracket to indicate a warm lighting. Everything is bordered with a thin, neat frame so that when art is complete it should be crisp on a wall or a binder. The large spaces (wings, belly, cave walls) with tiny details (coins, gems, rivets) should make the page both enjoyable to do with a quick pressing of color and to take the time and detail.
How to color (step-by-step)
Pick a palette (choose a vibe):
Classic gold hoard: emerald or teal dragon, golden coins, ruby and sapphire gems.
Moonlit cave: silver or sea-glass dragon, cooler coin tones (antique gold/bronze), violet shadows.
Fiery glow: warm red or plum dragon, bright gold coins, amber lighting around the lantern.
Base coats first: Lay light, even color on the dragon (keep belly plates and inner wings 1–2 shades lighter), then block in coins (warm yellow) and cave walls (soft gray or tan).
Dragon depth: Shade under the chin, along wing folds, and where the tail overlaps the hoard with a slightly darker tone. Leave tiny white highlights on snout, horns, and a few scale edges.
Gold coin shine: Start with a yellow base. Add ochre/brown along lower edges and between stacks. Pull a thin lighter streak or leave a slim white line on the tops for a metallic gleam. Dot a few coins with tiny white sparkles.
Gems that glow: Choose a single hue per gem. Shade from dark at one corner to light at the opposite corner; add one crisp white facet highlight. Use contrasting colors (red, blue, green, purple) so gems pop from the coins.
Treasure chest & relics:
Wood: tan base, then thin darker lines for grain; shade under the lid and along slats.
Metal bands/crown/goblet: pale yellow base, touch of ochre in shadows, tiny white highlights on edges and rivets.
Lantern light: Keep the lantern center pale yellow; softly halo nearby coins and the dragon’s nearest scales with a whisper of warm color to suggest glow.
Cave walls: Use layered grays/browns. Darken creases and under overhangs; keep areas near the lantern slightly warmer and the far corners cooler for depth.
Finish details: Add a few sparkle stars above the hoard and along wing edges. Deepen shadows directly under the dragon and coin stacks to “seat” them on the ground. Re-trace the border once for a poster-clean edge.
