Snowflake Dragon with Icicle Spines coloring page

A snwisky dragon of twinkling snowflake shapes and icicle points--clean lines, large forms and icy features that kids will love coloring.

Snowflake Dragon with Icicle Spines

This is a chilly-cute coloring page and the gentle dragon is ready to bring magic during winters. The horns are rounded, belly plates soft (only a vague hint of protection) and the scale smooth, scalloped, and long in one direction. The icicle spine, however, is long, ending in a point and has the appearance of a jewel, pierced by a crystal. Simple snowflake motifs are found in broad wings bold enough to color and delicate enough to make them special. The dragon gives a puff of frosty breath that flows easily away and in curving, wavy lines. The scene is located within a snowy clearing whose drifts are gently layered and there are two pine trees and neatly arranged dots comprising the stars. You may take as your choice a moon and some thin clouds, or a Daw of the aurora bands in the sky--the latter are drawn in large expansive lines, so as to cause the coloring easy. Extensive spaces (wings, belly, the sky, the snow) are balanced by tiny, but enjoyable details (arms of flakes, facets of icicles, rows of scales) within a narrow clean border that ensures the completed page will be crisp when bound or matted.

Tools & tips

Coloured pencils to smooth ice tonalities and snow shadows; markers to forceful flats on wings and sky (do sky first so that it does not bleed into the details).
Gel pens/metallics/white pen to add to the icicle glints, snowflake lines and eye sparkle.
On big spaces keep your brushstrokes going in the same direction; to achieve the smoothest transitions, lay down the color in very thin layers.
On thin paper, it is best to print with pencils on the background and save marker for smaller forms so that the bleed through does not occur.
