Sunflower Meadow with Smiling Dragon coloring page

A smiling dragon in some sort of sunlit meadow with large sunflowers bursting through lush foliage, simple bold lines, large amiable forms, detailed enough to keep kids happy during coloring-in time.

Sunflower Meadow with Smiling Dragon

This high-spirited coloring page depicts a grinning dragon in the midst of a sunflower field. The character is cute and not frightening due to rounded horns, soft belly plates, and scalloped back scales. The wings snap together to make wide open areas to color and the tail wraps around sturdy sunflower stems. The dragon is surrounded by sunflowers of different heights, wide petals, and shapes of big leaves, and rough seed centers that can be colored with dots and soft shading. Two or three butterflies and a kindly bee hover round, and a far-off hill with a plain fence lends some idea of depth without crowding. There are also puffy clouds floating, and all of it is contained within a thin and neat border to make the finished page presentable when it is printed out or kept up.

How to color (inc. A – Z)

Chose a palette:

Warm greens, yellow golds, sky blues and an apple green dragon for a sunny day.

Evening warp: amber petals, dusty greens, lavender sky and a teal or plum dragon.

Color: The flat color for the dragon;s body, belly, wings and also sunflower petals/leaves before adding any shadow.

Sunflowers: Gradate Shade petals from dark near the center to lighter at the tips. Dot or bruised seed centers with dark brown then add a cinnamon or ochre ring.

Deep color in dragon shading: down the belly edges, under the chin, wing tip to body overlaps, & just behind the tail. Leave small white tips to snout, claws, edges of wing.

Deep greens: Visualize and paint two greens – one on leaves & stems – the darker under the overlaps & along the veins – the lighter on the top surfaces.

Sky & distance: Meld sky to pale toward horizon to richer above, or keep it white with wispy cloud shadows Make far hills a bit cooler brightnesses, lightness

Little friends: Little friends use the soft formation of little yellow and gentle gray while butterflies is pastel or color changing. Use a white gel pen to add a little halo of light around wing dots.

Ends : An soft, warm “sun glazed” wash ondragon’s sunward-facing side and upper petals. Once for a crisp frame, trace the outline.
