Rainbow Dragon Above a Waterfall coloring page
The friendly dragon flies over a high waterfall with a large rainbow crossing over the mist-it is all with clean lines, large shapes, and magical details a kid would love to paint.
The soaring dragon on this inspirational coloring page is soaring above a clifftop waterfall. The horns of the dragon are rounded and the belly plates are round and the scales of the back are scalloped and straight lines are used to illustrate these features to ensure that they can be filled easily. Broad surfaces of colored patches provide extensive area of coloring; the tail, in a smooth S-shaped circle, reminds one of flash of a daring rainbow breaking out of the mist of the waterfall. The cascades cascade in vertical strands into a stagnant pool here and there are some stepping stones and cattails there. There is no clutter; there are simple rock faces, two or three pine trees and a pair of distant hills to create some depth. The shape of puffy clouds and the figure of two small birds can be seen high in the sky. It all just has the right ratio of huge (wings, sky, waterfall) and mini, pleasurable details (scale rows, splash dots, leaf groups). There is a slim, clean border around all this so that when printed or presented the completed page looks nice.
Colouring how to do (in steps)
Sunshine day: jade or teal dragon, clear blue water, clear rainbow.
Misty morning: sea glass dragon, lavender clouds, misty pastel rainbow.
Moonbow night: indigo rainbow, silver dragon, softer rainbow with starlike spangles.
Light, even base coats first: Apply light, smooth color to the dragon ( Pic 109: leave belly plates and the inside wings 12 shades lighter) and the sky.
Model the dragon: Shade beneath the chin and in the folds of its wings as well as the overlapping bands of its tail. Let the tips of the horns and the ends of some of the scales remain white, as well as a few white highlights on snout.
Rainbow magic: Coiling colour, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet--fading gradually as the colours pass together. On the arc include a little halo of very pale yellow to give glow.
Waterfall & pool: Vertical strokes should be used. Make the center a little lighter, blues in the back. In the places covered by sunlight put in pale turquoise, and keep dots of foam and splashes at most places white.
Rocks& trees: Warm grays or browns; rocks; shade under ledges. On pines use two greens--dark toward center, light at tip.
Mist and spray: Just very lightly shade around the foot of the falls with pale blue or lilac, leaving plenty of paper white that it may be airy.
Background details: maintain hills on the horizon (in the distance) a little cooler or lighter to make the dragon and the rainbow stand out.
Finish & frame: Place some sparkles dots here and there in the rainbow and the edges of the wings. Do another run around the outer border to get an edge that is crisp enough to be used in posters.
