Forest Guardian Dragon Among Mushrooms coloring page

A kind-looking forest dragon taking a rest in a mushroom glade- simple lines, large shapes and plenty of woodland detail that children should have a fun time coloring in.

Forest Guardian Dragon Among Mushrooms

This small drawing coloring page is a furry drake who is an inviting and protective “guardian”. He is lying in one of the clearing with moss and mushrooms. Cute little curving horns, squishy belly armour, scalloped scales on the back keep the dragon perky and prevent sharp edges on those sections, with easily accessible large areas in the folded wings to colour in. Mushrooms in groups--long toadstools, round button caps, and a few at an angle--are all at varying height so that they look different. A fern, a sprig of the kind that leaves are on, and a stump that is pretty well burned down are sufficient in this regard. Simple bold shapes (tiddly forest friends: snail on cap, a pair of fireflies perhaps an acorn and pinecone bring the scene to life. There are lines of light ripples on which the moss under the dragon is supposed to be soft, and a landscape of some flying leaf silhouettes frames the sky. All the contents are put in a thin clean boundary to ensure that the completed page has a clean look when put in a binder or frame. The painting offers plenty of expanses (wings, belly, sky) as well as good stuff in small doses (mushroom dots, fern leaflets, scale rows) so that the colorist would not get bored till the end.

Tools & tips

Coloured pencil on moss texture, mushroom dots, soft shading: markers on bold flats on wings, sky and large caps (do the sky first to prevent it bleeding over the details).
Perfect mushroom spots, eye shine, and night-fire glow is provided with a white gel pen: metallic pens make cute highlights on the tips of a scale or on acorn caps.
Lay down color in thin layers over large surfaces (wings, sky) and have the strokes of your brush moving in the same direction to achieve pleasing smooth transitions.
When printing and using thin paper, background should be done using pencils and smaller figures using reserve markers so as to avoid bleeding of ink.
