Birthday Cake Candles for a Dragon coloring page
The cute dragon having a cake and blowing a candle on the cake--all lines or big easy shapes that kids can color and decorate.
This cute coloring page consists of a cute dragon sitting where there is a tall birthday cake covered in frosting and candles. The large eyes and plump snout of the dragon ensures that it looks sweet rather than fearsome, and the fact that the lines are even and smooth makes sure that shapes are not too difficult to colour with little hands. On top of the dragons rest a simple party hat between two small horns and fun texture is added with soft, scalloped scales drawn along the back and tail. The cake is visibly tiered, dripping icing and regularly spaced candles with small flames, that beckons to bright colors and glowing effects. In and around the scene there is some festive detail, such as soft confetti shapes, a ribbon curl, and a pair of gift boxes, but they do not clutter the page. A thin and basic border is entertained all around it, making completed artwork presentable in a fridge or in a binder. The page, which is meant to be colored with markers, crayons or colored pencils, has areas of bigger proportions (belly, wings, cake layers) balanced by small and satisfying elements (scales, candle flames, sprinkles), to keep the colorists always interested till the end of the page.
Instruction Step by step tips of how to color
Design your palette: Choose 2 3 of the basic colors in which you want to draw a dragon (e.g. mint or emerald body, warmer belly, and violet or teal wings).
Base coats: Use light even color and put it down on large areas--dragon body, wings and cake layers.
To add depth: darken the edges of the dragon and along the contours of chin, wing, and tail by a slightly darker shade; do the same under the scales, leaving small white bits on snout and scales.
Cake magic: Pastel layers (strawberry pink, vanilla cream and lemon yellow) with contrasting colored icing. Add sprinkles in as shiny dots.
Candle glow: Color candles striped by rainbow. In the case of flames, apply yellow in the centre mixed with orange followed by the slightest touch of red at the top. Use the suggestion of light haloing the space about each flame by use of soft yellow so that the general effect is that of light.
Party information: Gifts, color of the gift should be complimentary and hat color should be fun pattern 1) polka dots 2) stripes. Make confetti of both sorts, and confined.
Finish & frame: Keep the background pretty white to leave the effect clean or wash very lightly with a very light pastel. Re-outline the frame with a smoother darker line in order to have a gallery display edge.
Supplies: Coloured blending/shading pencils; bold, flat markers; gel pens or a wee bit of glitter where you want some sparkle on the candle flames.
