T-Rex Near Lava Valley

The illustration in this coloring page is that of a formidable T-Rex taking a stalemate on the verge of a rocky cliff above a massive lava valley. The prehistoric scenery runs away towards the horizon with volcanoes emerging under the broad and open sky, making a dramatic and simple setting. The outlines in the T-Rex are clean and sharp, and provide ample definition to the powerful legs, long tail and animated face. Regardless of that detail, the picture still has large open spaces of colouring, which allows the artists of all ages to use it. The valley floor, cliff faces, and sky are purposefully left with wide and smooth areas so that one may be as creative as desired without overwhelming the page. The presence of the volcanoes gives the scene a sense of size and adventure, and the general composition of the painting creates a balance between detail and simplicity, which makes this scene not only dynamic in a way but also rather calming to colour.

🎨 How to Color
Start with dark greens, browns or light reds on the T-Rex and their darker counterparts on the legs, belly and the tail to make the lizard look three-dimensional. Lighten up the upper back and head indicating sunlight. Stain the cliff with greys and warm day chocolates, shades of shadows of cracks or edges. In the case of the lava valley, it will be glowing with red, orange and yellow to give the effect of heat. Volcanoes may be dark grey or dark black with hot spots at the top. Have the sky soft fog blue, dust orange or sunsets work brilliantly. Big spaces should be drawn using smooth lines and optional textures to enhance the scene in terms of rocks and skin scales, are added.
