Sweet peas spiral around a charming garden trellis
📇 Print Page

This lovely coloring page is of a narrow wooden trellis covered with a tumble of sweet pea vines whose tendrils curl up in rhapsodic loops. The flowers--sporting delicately ruffled edges and slight petal folds-- are waiting to be filled in with the softest pinks, purples, and creamy white, and the seed pods and buds provide a point of interest in muted greens or soft browns. Thin, wavy tendrils wind in between the vertical lines of the trellis and gives small line drawings that can be carefully shaded or be created in big, graphic fills. A couple of at-loose-ends leaves and shoots of vine are blowing away behind the trellis, and border the composition (they create space to play with more goofy scenery in the background--a little bit of sky, or distant blossoms, some loose ivy creepers?) The stretchers of the trellis will have lines of the wood grain and knotholes to add some dimension and invite you to try some warm earthy tones or grey washes. You can use this planting pattern to highlight the ethereal lightness of the sweet peas via pastel gradients or provide rich contrast using jewel-like tones but either way it will encourage you to weave your own serene garden scene into existence.
