How to colour
Paint the leprechaun clothing a deep green and paint his hat buckle and shoe buckles gold. Make the dress of the fairy pastel in color--soft pink, purple, or blue--and her wings should be very light pastel tints. The plants of your shamrock should be bright green standing out of the dark brown soil. Black in different shades of green will shade the trees and other aspects of the forest foliage so that it adds more in the background and lighter in the fore. The flowers and the toadstools can be painted bright reds, yellows and pale pinks in order to get whimsical touches. Dark yellows and oranges should be used to convey an impression of warm glow in the hanging lanterns. End on a lighter note with the blue sky trying through the trees in small milky tones of gold to represent the sun rays coming through the scene.
