Hockey Player Shooting a Slapshot

The given coloring page depicts one of the most striking dramatic moments in hockey namely, the taking of the shot by a hockey player. In the drawing, one can see a player winding up, wrapping his stick with full force and flexing it as it hits all of the ice and the puck is flying back. Spiky, precise lines emphasise the action of the moment--wide pose, humped knees, changing weight and the sweep of the stick. Louisiana feels like a 12-year-old should, where there is much space to colour and at the same time provides the detailed touch in the equipment, folds of the jerseys and skates, which attracts older kids. The plain background only serves to maintain the attention on the violent action but allows creative opportunities like lines on the rink, goal posts, speed streaks or cheating figures. Youthful hockey enthusiasts, classroom assignments, sports camp or doorway coloring amusement idealize this page. It mentors power, accuracy, and thrill, the kids dream the speed and power of the perfect slapshot and enjoy themselves in the form of artistic expression.

How to ColorĀ
To give colour to this slapshot scene, one needs to start with bright team colours on the jersey of the player: bright reds, dark blues, dark greens, dark yellows or dark black to make the action stand out. Add darkening to the torso, sleeves, and legs to provide the tension due to the strong swing. Skates and gloves should be dark, and the stick blade should be metallic greys or silvers. The puck need not be anything but a basic black or just any fun colour. In the case of the ice, light blues or clear greys should be used to make the surface smooth and not to distract the eyes of the player. The puck or stick can have speed lines or the ice can be sprayed behind the skates of the player to add to the movement. You can include additional information with either thin rink lines or in the background or a shadow of a goal. Complete by sketching portions of the art using a sharpened coloured pencil that would create sharp dramatic energy to the artwork.
