How to Colour
In colouring an image of Batman fighting armed opponents, our attention would be on contrast and composition to have Batman as the central object. Start with the background, which is dark blues and greys, and subdued brown so as to give a Gotham appearance of night. These colours should be applied in a very thin layer to form shadows and depth with some darker patches prone to areas which can have sources of light like streetlamps or interior lights. Use the brightness of the background wisely not to obscure the key action in the picture which should be dramatic.
The suit of Batman must be bounded in the customary colour like black, charcoal, or deep navy blue. Add soft inscriptions in the chest, on arms, folds of the cape, etc., to indicate that the lights are bouncing off of his armour and muscles. The cape must be filled in with soft directional strokes according to its flowing and heavier in the edges and lighter in the centre to give the effect of volume. The Bat symbol, the utility belt could be in muted yellow or gold colours such that they create contrast on the scene without being overwhelming.
The enemies are to be dressed in dull, neutral colours to avoid taking attention away to Batman. Weapons may be given metallic greys and a few highlight. Coloured pencils are good to blend shadows and add textures to clothes and environment whereas the fine-tip markers are good to outline and make objects sharp. Work backwards to foreground and work up color. Focus on lighting, shadow and controlled contrast to document the tension, the boldness and passion of Batman against all odd.
