Ariel in a Cockle Shell
📇 Print Page

Ariel is depicted drawn up in a warm embrace of giant pink cockle shell with her sparkling tail just out to play with some strands of pearls or to converse with her tiny seahorse friends. She has terrifying red hair flowing over pearly appearance of the shell with bubbles and fish who happened to stop by and quietly observe the peculiar underwater throne she is seated in. Young artists will enjoy adorning the shell with all its rich ridges with blush pinks and creamy whites but will they add their own peculiar touch (would it be purple starfish, golden seaweed or perhaps, a stashed treasure chest by the side?) to the emerald-tailed mermaid Ariel and the coral reef in the background? Colouring this beautiful picture turns to a fantastic deep sea game! Working with colored papers will give children fine-motor practice, and as they mix colors to achieve the mother-of-pearl glow to the shell surface and the flowing hair of Ariel, they will also be learning how light works in water ( why not use lighter blues at the top of the page to create the effect of sunlight on water!). With regard to showing how Ariel changes ordinary things in the ocean into a special one just as the grotto full of human treasures, parents can tell fun facts about the real cockle shells. This is an ideal page to use during playtime or Little Mermaid themed parties as it invites children to use their imaginations: Is Ariel hiding in her shell waiting on Sebastian? Make-believe it is a boat? Or a hair-brush to brush her hair with? There is as much that is possible as there is ocean!
